Assessment of Indoor Air Quality in Buildings
Transform your building's environment with our innovative air quality monitoring sensors

Overview
Building A is a modern commercial property located in the heart of the city. It is home to numerous businesses with hundreds of occupants, including office workers, janitorial staff, and visitors. As a multi-purpose property encompassing office spaces, restrooms, and parking lots, Building A is committed to providing a healthy and comfortable environment for all its occupants.
However, Building A faces a significant challenge: maintaining optimal indoor air quality (IAQ) across its various spaces.
The building management faces fluctuating occupancy levels, diverse air pollutant sources, restroom odors, and vehicle emissions in the parking lot. Moreover, they aspire to comply with the WELL v2.2 standard, which requires strict monitoring and control of multiple IAQ parameters.
To address these challenges, Building A is seeking a comprehensive, innovative, and data-driven solution. This solution should not only address the unique needs of each space but also align with their broader goal of creating a sustainable, health-focused built environment.
Problem
Building A experiences a lot of indoor air quality issues due to its diverse use and high occupancy. These issues include:
- Elevated CO2 levels and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in office spaces
- Unpleasant odors and harmful gases in toilets
- Carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) emissions in the parking lot.
In addition to these, they face the challenge of adhering to the stringent WELL v2.2 standard, requiring continuous IAQ monitoring and real-time data availability.
Use Case
To tackle these issues, Building A adopted the following products:
- Milesight Air Quality Monitoring Sensor: A compact indoor ambiance monitoring sensor equipped with features such as temperature, humidity, PIR, Light, TVOC, Barometric Pressure, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), and Particulate Matter (PM2.5 & PM10) measurements. This product is designed for office spaces, providing real-time data via a 4.2-inch E-ink screen.
- Milesight Bathroom Odor Detector: A dedicated IAQ sensor for restrooms that detects ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases with great accuracy. It is designed for easy installation and maintenance, with up to three years of battery life.
- SENSO8 Car Park IAQ Sensor LRS10701-MN00: A comprehensive Indoor Air Quality IoT sensor. It monitors Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), and Ambient Temperature & Humidity, providing real-time data for effective ventilation system adjustments in car parking lots.
After implementing these sensors, Building A was able to effectively monitor and control its indoor air quality.

The sensors provided real-time data, allowing the building management team to take timely actions whenever the air quality deviated from acceptable levels.
Benefits
Enhanced Health and Well-being: Continuous air quality monitoring ensures a healthier environment for occupants, reducing respiratory risks and improving overall well-being.
Energy Efficiency: Real-time sensor data allows for optimized ventilation and HVAC systems, minimizing energy consumption and reducing environmental impact.
Maintenance Optimization: Early detection of air quality issues enables timely maintenance and corrective actions, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment.
Compliance and Reporting: Compliance with regulatory requirements is facilitated, with sensor data available for reporting and demonstrating adherence to standards
Data-Driven Decision Making: Collected data empowers facility managers to analyze trends, identify patterns, and make informed decisions to optimize air quality management strategies.
Success Factors
To effectively convince establishments to adopt the air quality monitoring solution, several factors should be emphasized:
Education on IAQ Parameters: End users should be educated on the importance of measuring different gases and pollutants in various scenarios. For instance, CO2 levels might be a concern in office spaces due to occupancy, while volatile organic compounds (VOCs) might be more relevant in toilets.
Relevant Certifications: Having certifications like WELL or other recognized indoor environmental quality standards can lend credibility to the solution and encourage adoption, especially in premium buildings.
